Thanks a lot, Greta!

(Please read sarcastic tone into title.)

I have my sister, Greta, to thank for my latest and most potent addiction ever. A couple of months ago I was at her house and was hankerin’ for a little something crunchy and perhaps salty to snack on. She nonchalantly reached in her cupboard and produced the most crispy, crunchy, satisfying, irresistible, “can’t-possibly-stop-eating-til-the-entire-box-is-gone” treat: “Nut-Thins Rice & Nut Crackers.” Has anyone tried these stupid things? I wish I hadn’t! I can’t stop eating them! Why, Greta? Why’d ya do it??

I love, love, love the pecan flavoured ones. The ingredients list is pretty clean, and they’re backed by the Celiac Disease Foundation, being gluten-free and all, which I appreciate. The label states that a 30 gram serving (16 crackers) is a mere 130 calories, so you can grab more than a handful. Oh yeah? Well how ’bout 1600 crackers, because that’s about how many (give or take a few thousand), that I’ve downed in the last couple of weeks! Seriously. Crack cocaine might be safer than these crackers. Maybe it’s just me. Perhaps I have no willpower whatsoever. Perhaps I am a willpower weakling? Or perhaps I am so tired of hibernating through these winter months that I’m just drowning my sorrows with salty snacks. I dunno. All I do know is that for the last couple of weeks I’ve had to bump up my workouts at the gym to two-hour, cracker-calorie-incinerating sweat-a-thons, thanks to Greta and her so-called “hospitality.” When I said I wanted crunchy and salty, why couldn’t she have offered me a dill pickle?

Like I said, it might just be me, but if you want to try them for yourself, I found Nut Thins at Loblaws in the natural section. Manufacturer is Blue-Diamond Growers. Good luck to you.

I love those crackers! I have been eating them since my SIL (celiac dz) turned me on to them a while back. Even my son (4y/o) loves them. His favorite are the cheese and ranch one (ranch are too dilly for me!). YUM. It really is hard to eat just 1 serving.

While they are backed by the Celiac Foundation.. I do believe some boxes say that they may be manufactured in a facility that handles wheat… so to those celiacs, please do try to eat just one serving the first time you eat them! LOL.

    Janet,
If 16 crackers = 130 calories, then 1600 crackers = 13,000 calories, which = about 16 sessions of two-hour-sweat-a-thons at the gym. Not my fault you can’t control yourself :)
    Luv,
    Greta

Those are god-sent snacks according to a couple of my wheat-allergic friends (not to mention my celiac uncle). I don’t handle wheat well, but I don’t handle nuts at ALL, so sadly can’t try them out! Sigh.

BTW, do either of you Twitter?? I know a few nutritionally minded people (including me!) that would love to see you on there!

Haha! Way to call her on it, Greta! And to think that Janet said you weren’t funny! (Or at least not as funny as her.) But you can totally hold your own! ;)

Just bought some today. (I couldn’t find them at any Loblaws in my area so I got them at the health food store.) You’re right – they are dee-licious!! I’m ashamed to admit that the box almost didn’t make it all the way home from the store…. So don’t worry, Janet, it’s not just you! Unless of course we both have the same problem and there’s something wrong with both of us!!! haha

A year ago my husband had to have open heart surgery due to Chronic Coronary Artery Disease. Thank goodness not a heart attack. A staff member told me about your 3 cookbooks which I ran out to buy all 3. I started to cook from them after Dec 1 of last year and have not stopped. Now a friend and I get together every other Sunday and we cook 5 double recipies. We never have to rush home to cook unhealthy meals again.. My husband has lost 40 lbs and I have lost 30. We both need to thank you for changing our lives. I keep going to Chapters to hope you have written another wonderful and funny cookbook. Thanks again!!!!!!
