A Few of Janet’s Favourite Things, Too!
I thought my sister, Greta, did a really kickin’ job with her first-ever blog entry, composing her own song to the tune of “My Favourite Things” from The Sound of Music. What a great way for you to get to know her better. Well, now that it’s my turn, I nervously said to myself, “Janet,” I said, “you can’t do the same thing that your sister just did. Why, that would be copying! And totally lacking imagination! Nope, you need to come up with somethin’ different, something uniquely yours so that folks can see what you, as an individual, are all about.” So, after much soul-searching and pitch-piping, here’s my creation. It’s a catchy little ditty which you can sing to the tune of Barry Manilow’s beloved classic, Copacabana:
Her name was Janet, she was a sports girl
But that was 20 years ago, before her knee suffered a blow
Now she can’t disco, or do the Polka
Still in the shorts she likes to wear, and a ball cap on her hair
She hits a golf ball fine, and over hills she climbs…
Phew! This is tough! And I haven’t even made it to the tricky chorus yet! Forgive me, Barry, but I think I might follow in my sister’s footsteps after all. I like the sound of her music better than what I have going so far. So, here are a few of my favourite things. And a one, and a two…
Freshly-baked cookies and whipped cream on berries
Anything chocolate, except for those cherries
Jack Russell terriers, fluid golf swings
These are a few of my favourite things
Sunshine on cut grass and toes in the wet sand
Of Idol, Bette Midler and Ellen I’m a fan
My best friend’s cooking, Habs’ Stanley Cup rings
These are a few of my favourite things
Scar on my knee and one fingernail missing
If not for my brown eyes, no boys I’d be kissing
Friendship and laughter just make my heart sing
These are a few of my favourite things
When the dog bites (Lacey! Bad girl!), when the bee stings (No sweat. My sister’s the allergic one), when I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favourite things, and then I don’t feeeeel, sooooo baaaaad.
Thanks! You’ve been a great audience!
