A Few of My Favourite Things
I’m so excited about my first-ever blog entry, that I’ve decided to write a song! Well, not from scratch, exactly, but I’ve taken a popular song and “made it my own,” as Paula and Randy love to say on American Idol. I also felt this nifty new song of mine would be good way for you to get to know me a little better. So, here goes:
Get out your pitch-pipe, clear your vocal chords and please sing along to the tune of “My Favourite Things” from the The Sound of Music:
Pumpkin-spice latte and fresh brown-rice sushi
Homegrown tomatoes, pink grapefruit that’s juicy
Cheesecake and springrolls and buffalo wings
These are a few of my favourite things
My cuddly dog Lexi and warm, sunny beaches
Mom’s homemade pie when it’s made with fresh peaches
Nights with Jack Bauer and Idol’s that sing
These are a few of my favourite things
Cooking for good friends and shopping for new shoes
Watching the Pistons and playing Sudoku
Dining and chatting, red wine and cheese strings
These are a few of my favourite things
When the dog bites (mine doesn’t), when the bee stings (Ouch! I’m allergic!), when I’m feeling saaaaad, I simply remember my favourite things, and then I don’t feeeeel sooooo baaaaad.
What are YOUR favourite things? Try filling in the blanks and creating your own theme song.
(The real song lyrics, in case you’re interested:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favourite things
Cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favourite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eye-lashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favourite things
When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things and then I don’t feel so bad)

You guys crack me up. Great poem Janet! I can only assume then that you can also sing, dance, play 5 instruments and speak 4 languages and all at the same time?

Oops. I could have sworn I saw Janet’s name at the top of the poem. Sorry Janet!

Hi,
I absolutely love your books! Eat, Shrink and be Merry is my favourite though. I have made quite a few of the recipes now …..including the died and gone to heaven chocolate cake! I brought it to a potluck and received 2 wedding proposals and one man wanted to take me home right there and then!! LOL.
Keep up the great work ladies.

I have never in my life tried as many recipes from a single cookbook as with ESBM, and my family has loved almost all of them (although I have yet to convince them that vegetables really do have a place in lasagna, but that’s not your fault…personally, I loved Ooh La La Lasagne). I’ve given several copies as gifts and recommended it to just about anybody who will sit still and listen. My husband (a cop) says that even the guys at work were regaling each other with reviews of their favorites. Ladies, you did good!

Seriously, as always you amaze me with your wonderful recipes and extra information. I enjoy it thoroughly and thank you b/c we all know being stuck in the kitchen is FUN! I especially loved your Salmon and Garfunkel. mmmm, fish . . . .Thanks!
P.S. I have each of your books and use them religiously!

I have all your books and have enjoyed each one. This latest, one, however, is THE best! I love to read cookbooks and have had a few in my time…but I don’t always use them—-ES&BM is one I have used and each recipe so far is a keeper!
At Christmas, the Bench Babes had a potluck using only recipes from the ES&BM book so we got to sample a lot of dishes—-and they were all good! That shows how much of an effort you put into making this so fabulous— Thanks for making healthy eating so informative, fun and delicious!! You guys rock!

Hi Ladies,
In keeping with the them of this blog, I LOVE your books!! I also have all of them and have loved every recipe I’ve made (especially “The Thigh’s the Limit”)
Since there’s just not enough time in the day, I’d love to get from feedback from your fellow readers as to which recipes, from any and all of your books, are their favorites. Please share!!!

Hi
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your books! They are way better than any Sunday morning funnies out there! I’ve never read a cookbook from cover to cover before. My family, especially my son David loved the Lick your Chops porkchops. BBQ’d omigod they were so goood! He keeps asking me to make them.Keep up the fabulous work! I recommend your books to all my friends…

Chicks….I can call them that cause I am a friend. Great idea. I can relate to a few of your favorite things. Your mom’s peach pie – to die for! You did though forget about JoeKool’s nachos – but I am sure yours are better tasting and certainly better for you. The time you were stung by the bee and had to be rushed to the hospital. Ouch! and I hate to tell you but Andrew is away tonight seeing the Pistons play
( I’m jealous.
As a side note, I shared my books with a co-worker one weekend. Yes she did return them, but I had forgotten that I had wanted to make Love Me Tenderloin that weekend. I will never share again. Just joking – she is buying her own copies now.
Stay warm….beach weather is right around the corner. Jen

I absolutley love your cookbooks!!! Whenever I make any of your recipes, people go on and on about how great of a cook I am. Of course, I tell them that it isn’t me, but the cookbooks.I have taken the bean dip recipe (I think it is from Crazy Plates) to so many parties and people keep requesting more. Some of my favorites from ESBM are the Loin King, Shocklate Cheesecake, Melancauli Baby, Hook, Line and Simple (DIVINE!!!), Girl-Guy Cookies (only problem with this recipe is that it isn’r low-fat when you polish off half the cookies in one sitting. Too good to resist!!), A Bundt in the Oven. My husband and I have tried many of the recipes and love all of them!!!
I have bought the book for several family members…
Thanks for making healthy eating so satisfying and delicious!!

Greta, your song cracked me up! Thanks for the early morning smile.
You already know how I feel about your recipes. They are on my family table every evening. I haven’t tried one yet I didn’t like. And they are big hits with my family as well.
I look forward to your thoughts on new products etc. Thanks for this blog!

Girls,
Just wanted to let you know that we love your book, ESBM. We had ordered several books for fellow WW members, and they keep coming back to the meetings and thanking us and telling us how much they love the book. We even got several copies for family members and friends. Keep up the good work. We look forward to your next book….Maybe diabetic friendly?

Greta and Janet: Glad to see all going well….I passed the ES&BM URL to folks in my office in San Francisco – I’m sure the California lifestyle will appreciate your contributions to their well-being. All the best.

Hi girls,
I think this is a great idea, however you’ll have such a great response that nobody will have time to read all the comments that are sure to come your way.
Someone asked for favourite recipies from your books. My favourite of all of them is “Roast of Christmas Past”. I get nothing but rave reviews every time I make it for someone new.
Keep up the good work and have fun with your blog.
Jean

Where can I begin on how much I love the ESBM cookbook? I have never used a cookbook as much as I do with this one! PLUS, my two plainest eaters on the planet (a.k.a. husband and son) truly LOVE Sticky Chicky and Ponderoasta. (I’m getting around to more!). I found that the trick is …. do not, and I repeat, do NOT tell them any of the ingredients beforehand, LOL. If I make Sticky Chicky ahead of time now, I’ll have to hide it in the fridge, because it will never make the dinner table!
I am looking forward to making many, many more recipes from the cookbook!! I am also on WW and find that the nutritional info helps so much in making good, healthy choices!!
Thanks for a fabulous cookbook!!

I love your cook book but I would really like to know how many calories are in Died and Gone to Heaven chocolate layer cake
